We, as a society, have been increasingly focused on gun violence for a number of years and there appears to be no end in sight. While a debate rages over whether these acts are caused by the prevalence of guns in our culture or the product of disintegrated mental illness diagnosis and treatment of potentially violent perpetrators, risk managers, employers, human resources personnel and others have to face the reality that they and those they are potentially responsible to protect may face the rage of an armed person.
Rick Linkert, J.D., Partner at Matheny, Sears, Linkert, Jaime, LLP, has focused on handling high-exposure cases in a variety of subject matter areas over the last several decades. Rick will discuss both procedures to help prevent tragedies from occurring and potentially save lives if a violent person arrives at a place of work, school, or medical facility as well as ways to navigate through complex litigation that results from active shooter incidents. Rick will also address the increase in “Nuclear Verdicts”, verdicts in favor of the plaintiff with a damage award that surpasses $10 million, or verdicts in which an outcome is significantly larger than what anyone expected.
Joining Rick to discuss active shooter risks from an underwriting perspective is Kyle Rolf, CPCU and AU-M. Kyle is a production underwriter at Beazley focusing on Deadly Weapons Protection.
